Central Connecticut Conference Expands for 2009

By Jeff Fisher
The High School Football Huddle

The Central Connecticut Conference will have a new look next year. Friday the CCC's policy board approved the additions of Tolland and Rocky Hill for the 2009 season, which expands the conference to 32-members, which makes it the largest in the state. Earlier this year the CCC excepted six schools from the former Northwest Conference.

“We are thrilled that these two great high schools have come on board,” said CommissionerJohn Tarnuzzer.

Conference President Neil Sullivan, Principal of Simsbury High School, said addition of these schools makes a solid, competitive conference even stronger. “It’s been an exciting year for the CCC, and we are pleased to welcome Rocky Hill and Tolland into the fold,” he said. “In addition, the expansion of our conference has allowed us to create division alignments that make more sense in terms of both travel and competitive balance for the member schools. With 32 schools now a part of the conference, we’re likely to have a few growing pains, but I think we all recognize that these moves have simply made our conference stronger.”

The divisions for football will be set after the season, but here's how things look for other major sports such as basketball and baseball...

West: New Britain, Southington, Simsbury, Hall, Newington, Conard, Farmington, Northwest Catholic.

East: Bloomfield, E.O. Smith, Fermi, Hartford Public, RHAM, Rockville, Rocky Hill, Tolland.

By Jeff Fisher
The High School Football Huddle

Ansonia's 35-game win streak is over. Friday night the two-time defending Chargers lost to Crosby 18-14, which was the program's first loss since November 10, 2005. Ansonia is the only school in Connecticut high school football history to have two streaks over over 30 games. The Chargers also own a 36-game win streak in the 70's. Cheshire holds the state record at 49-straight from 1992 to 1996. Click here for a game recap
